The Laboratoire de Biologie Tissulaire et d’Ingénierie Thérapeutique (LBTI) is a leading European research laboratory based in Lyon, France. It benefits from an outstanding scientific environment within the Lyon–Gerland Biodistrict and the Lyon Santé Est campus of Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL1), where the proposed research will be conducted.
The NANOVEC research team focuses on the design and development of therapeutic nanoformulations capable of crossing biological barriers, with particular emphasis on mucosal transport and immune activation. The team possesses strong technical expertise in mRNA and antigen nanoparticle formulation, physicochemical and in vitro characterization, immunization protocols, serological assays (ELISA, ELISpot), and histological analyses. This expertise has been developed through several previous and ongoing projects dedicated to next-generation vaccination strategies.
Hosting Offer
The NANOVEC Laboratory invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF). Eligible applicants (typically researchers with up to 8 years of research experience since the award of their PhD) will be supported in preparing a proposal for submission to the MSCA-2026-PF call (deadline: 9 September 2026). The proposed research topics include:
- Induction and modulation of mucosal immune responses
- mRNA-based vaccination strategies
- Development of multifunctional nanoparticles as non-viral delivery systems for nucleic acids and small molecules
- Mucosal administration and targeted delivery approaches
The fellowship could last for 12 to 36 months, depending on the type of Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Supervision
The successful Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by Dr. Danielle Campiol Arruda, Associate Professor at the Institut des Sciences Pharmaceutiques et Biologiques of Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL1) and member of the Tissue Biology and Therapeutic Engineering Laboratory (LBTI – UMR 5305), within the NANOVEC team led by Dr. Claire Monge.
Dr. Arruda is a pharmacist with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. She has developed a multidisciplinary research profile spanning chemistry and biology (she also holds a Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology), before specializing in nanotechnology and the development of nanoparticle-based systems for health applications.
Her research focuses on the design of nanoparticles for the delivery of nucleic acids (siRNA and mRNA) and immunostimulatory molecules, with the aim of developing innovative vaccines and therapeutic strategies. Recently, she secured funding to investigate mucosal administration—primarily via the oral route—of nanovectors, as well as to develop ex vivo and alternative in vitro models. These models are designed to reduce reliance on animal experimentation in preclinical studies and to improve understanding of nanoparticle uptake mechanisms, mRNA expression efficiency, and the immune pathways they trigger.
In parallel, she evaluates antigen-specific immune responses, with particular emphasis on secretory antibodies and tissue-resident memory responses following in vivo mucosal immunization using selected mRNA-based nanovaccines encoding either model or clinically relevant antigens. This work provides proof of concept for next-generation mucosal vaccination strategies.
