Offer Description
You’ll join the MIC Research & Innovation (R&I) team. R&I develops advanced microfluidic technologies to push the impact of this technology across very diverse fields: cell biology, soil remediation, water treatment, materials science. We work through collaborative projects with the best European laboratories.
Market-driven PhD engineer job is about turning open scientific problems into microfluidic setups and instruments that actually work, somewhere between the bench and the workshop, from the specification sheet all the way to the prototype delivered to the partner. Whether or not you already have experience is not what matters most to us. What counts is your mindset, your curiosity, your energy and your ability to learn.
Your role
- You work with the team on scientific projects built around microfluidics, to meet the needs and specifications of our research partners
- You design, build, test and improve microfluidic setups and platforms
- You bring ideas to the table and solve the challenges you run into in simple, bold and clever ways
- You take part in developing the next microfluidic instruments in our range, for every scientific application in our field
- Together with the rest of the team, you deliver prototypes to leading scientists all over Europe and you iterate on their feedback
- You put into practice the shortcuts and wild ideas that make sense so MIC stays at the top of innovation in its sector
- You factor market needs into the development of new technologies within European projects, to speed up their exploitation
Job type: full-time, permanent contract (CDI)
Status: executive (cadre)
Benefits:
- Flextime
- 50% coverage of daily commuting costs
Location: on-site, Paris 11e, Charonne
Requirements
Your profile
- You hold a PhD linked to physics or mechanics, already awarded. Any field works for us: mechatronics, robotics, electronics, mechanics, optics, materials, microfluidics. An engineering degree on top is a plus
- You ideally have two years of experience in industry
- You have skills in fluid mechanics or microfluidics and in mechanical design. Some notions of electronics or programming are the cherry on the cake
- You combine scientific rigour, pragmatism and creativity
- You can think outside the box to find simple solutions to complicated problems, and you get to grips with a complex subject quickly
- You dislike routine and you adapt fast when the direction changes
- You have a good level of English: most exchanges with colleagues and partners happen in English
- You are fluent with prompt engineering and AI tools, to go faster and further alongside us
At MIC, we love action, creativity, autonomy and curiosity. Doing more than saying. High standards towards yourself and real attention to others. A taste for questioning things and for an intense, contrasted life. And people who bring chouquettes (little cream puffs) to share.
