Job Summary
The Shared Services - Student Wellness Center department is seeking a Marketing and Outreach Specialist to lead culturally responsive marketing, communications, and outreach efforts that increase awareness and engagement with Student Wellness Center services and programs. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Student Services, with lead work direction from the Health Communications Specialist, this position will promote student health, well-being, healthy behaviors, and a healthy campus climate through digital, print, web, video, and in-person communication channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain engaging marketing content for websites, social media, video, print, and other communication channels
- Plan and implement culturally relevant marketing, branding, communication, and outreach campaigns promoting Student Wellness Center services, events, and healthy behaviors
- Coordinate outreach requests, communication schedules, event promotion, and educational initiatives with Student Wellness Center leadership and campus partners
- Build campus relationships, maintain outreach materials, and develop sustainable processes and protocols for marketing and outreach
- Recruit, train, direct, evaluate, and manage student employees supporting social media, marketing, and outreach activities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough and advanced knowledge and understanding of marketing, branding, communications, public relations, and related roles
- Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of unit events, initiatives, and subject matter expertise to identify and capitalize on marketing opportunities that will promote and increase collaboration and engagement
- General awareness of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), and a willingness to develop skills in their appropriate, responsible, and ethical use in a higher education environment, consistent with institutional policies and practices
- Demonstrated competence in independently applying advanced judgment to create and implement strategies and initiatives
- Proven experience in developing and implementing strategies and campaigns, with a record of accomplishment of achieving measurable results
- Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of initiatives and projects within time and budget constraints
- Ability to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles
- Ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to build and foster strong relationships as well as drive change initiatives
- Advanced skill to appropriately use technology and relevant event planning and management tools
- Knowledge of health-education theories, research and program assessment, including planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of health programs
- General graphic design skills and skill using relevant graphic communication software
- Skill at collaborating with diverse individuals and groups to achieve goals
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening, and interpretive skills
- Ability to learn and adhere to strict confidentiality laws such as HIPAA and FERPA and campus/Chancellor's Office policies
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
- Two (2) years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in an approved program in Communications, Health Education, Public Health, or a related field.
- At least two (2) years of experience performing marketing and outreach within a public health setting
- At least two (2) years of experience working in higher education setting
Compensation
Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,689/month - $7,099/month (Step 13 – Step 16)
CSU Salary Range: $5,274/month - $7,684/month (Step 1 – Step 20)
