Job Description

The University of Indianapolis Marketing Associate and Assistant Mascot Handler is an integral member of the Office of University Communications and Marketing, which is responsible for supporting clients and the team, attending events, and the creation of marketing materials. Responsibilities include assisting marketing managers with client meetings and organizing project tasks for the content and creative teams, as well as communicating with clients to review proofs/drafts and overseeing the editing process; assisting the Mascot Handler at events by filming or creating social content, and attending some events with the mascot representing the university to create a strong sense of community; assisting with videography projects by booking talent, rooms, organizing schedules and assisting on-site with production needs; writing copy and generating marketing content ideas. The Marketing Associate and Assistant Mascot Handler must be highly organized, self-motivated, have a sharp eye for details, and enjoy interacting with the campus community. You must love dogs!

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

This is an entry-level position. Previous experience writing copy, organizing projects, and utilizing spreadsheets, project management software, or Adobe products is a plus.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Design, Communications or related field.

Additional Experience

Comfort with dogs, crowds, and event management; Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and coordinate daily work assignments independently, with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward organizational objectives; Evidence of superior oral and written communication skills; Evidence of success working effectively with diverse constituencies and in a team environment; Willingness to learn new skills and technology; Higher education experience not required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will work collaboratively with University Communications and Marketing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Uphold UIndy's visual identity found in our style guide by using appropriate colors, font styles, iconography, photography, etc.; Attend client meetings with marketing managers, then assist in project management (entering project tasks in project management system, reviewing proofs, suggesting edits, delivering proofs to clients and collecting their feedback, ensuring final products are printed and stored properly in internal systems); Edit or update marketing collateral as provided by content specialists and marketing managers as needed in support of 100+ undergraduate and 40+ graduate programs; Attend campus events with the Mascot Handler or in their place, with a live mascot ensuring its safety and its ability to interact with crowds or participate in events; Develop and post content across multiple social media channels not limited to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (X), for Mascot Handler; Book rooms, talent, and assist on sets of video and photo projects as needed or assigned by AVP of Marketing; Coordinate with vendors for materials for production; Complete other duties as assigned.
