Marketing & Communications Specialist
This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Operations and is responsible for marketing and communications of the estate. This includes coordinating all digital and print marketing, managing social media platforms, and providing timely communications regarding Glensheen news and events. This position supervises and directs the work of student workers and may work evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Schedule: 40 hours per week April through December - 8:00am to 4:30pm M-F; 32 hours per week January through March - 8:00am to 4:30pm Tu-F; may include evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
Job Duties:
- Communications (35%): Develops, designs, and implements an overall strategic communication plan to maximize Glensheen’s exposure and engagement with audiences across various mediums. Tracks expenses to ensure budget stays within annual allowances. Develops, designs, and implements Glensheen’s brand messaging, image, and experience; ensures it is consistent across all communication. Maintains Glensheen’s website with timely and accurate information, monitors analytics, and optimizes user experience and call to actions. Designs and implements e-news content and distribution, including writing communications to external audiences, creating newsletters, overseeing the maintenance of email lists, and tracking analytics. Ensures that the organization’s digital communication channels meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders in a timely, accurate, and compelling way. Assists colleagues across the organization with messaging to ensure it is consistent, accessible, and following brand guidelines. Responds to guest reviews, inquiries, and concerns in a timely manner. Maintains knowledge of industry standards for communication and disseminates information to staff.
- Marketing & Social Media (35%): Develops, designs, and implements an organic and paid marketing strategy to maximize Glensheen’s exposure to audiences across various mediums. Creates engaging content for multiple social media platforms and refines strategies using analytics, sales, and attendance trends. Engages with and cultivates audiences across social media platforms to highlight features of the historic site, its collection, events, and brand. Leads the development process to gather and analyze data about Glensheen’s target audiences and creates visitor segmentation and profiles. Coordinates and manages the creation of marketing and communication materials for print, digital, and on-site use. Creates graphic direction and concepts, supervises student workers, and updates community calendars with Glensheen events. Provides customer marketing insight during development of tours and events. Maintains knowledge of industry standards for marketing and social media.
- Media and Public Relations (25%): Engages and cultivates relationships with local and statewide media to promote Glensheen. Represents Glensheen as a public face, including executing press events and interviews, attending community events, and serving with affinity groups. Designs, develops, and implements a proactive strategic earned media strategy to build affinity and engagement. Engages with partners to support tourism and community connections. Conceptualizes, writes, and executes press releases and media pitches. Coordinates and leads promotional events. Responds to media inquiries and maintains knowledge of industry standards for media, public relations, museums, and tourism. Interacts with guests to interpret Glensheen effectively.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%): Serve in the role of opener/closer in rotation with other staff to provide opening and closing support for the estate, which may include weekend, evening, and holiday shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or other related fields plus two years of experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal at least six years.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer experience required.

- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite.
- Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products or Canva.
- Experience using a project management tool.
- Experience using a social media management tool.
