HHMI is focused on supporting and moving science forward in a variety of different ways ranging from conducting basic biomedical research, empowering educators, inspiring students, developing the next generation of scientists – even stretching into film and media production. Our Headquarters is in the greater Washington, DC metro area and is home to over 300 employees with expertise in investments, communications, digital production, biomedical sciences, and everything in between. The work housed here supports and augments the groundbreaking research conducted in HHMI labs across the nation. As HHMI scientists continue to push boundaries in laboratories and classrooms, you can be sure that your contributions while working here are making a difference.
Summary of the Role
This is a role for someone who moves fluidly between analytics and systems, and who wants to architect and build the intelligence layer that tells a team what’s actually working .
HHMI's Marketing and Digital Communications team shapes how the Institute's research, programs, and opportunities reach the scientists, students, educators, and grantees who rely on them, as well as the general public . That work runs across web, email, social, paid media, and in-person channels. Today the team can track performance across each of those channels, but is missing deep visibility and insight into how audiences move between them, and how effectively content and strategy decisions are paying off.
You are the person who builds that view, from the ground up. You own the data systems, the analytics infrastructure, and the measurement architecture that show how audiences find, experience, and move through HHMI's digital ecosystem. That means standing up systems that don't exist yet: leading the CRM and CDP implementation from vendor evaluation through integration, designing the cross-channel measurement architecture, governing UTM taxonomy and analytics configuration, tracking search and AI visibility, and building the audience segmentation and dashboards that keep the full team oriented. You work in close partnership with the Director and Content and Digital Experience Senior Manager, turning what the data shows into decisions the team can act on.
This is not a pure analytics role or a pure systems role. It takes deep, career-level expertise and comfort operating on both sides at once: the build capability sets the floor, and the analytics fluency builds on it.

What You Will Actually Do
- Build and own the analytics infrastructure. Design,
stand up, and evolve HHMI's digital analytics, including conversion
event tracking, journey dashboards, and UTM taxonomy governance,
building what is not there yet rather than inheriting a finished
stack. This is single ownership with active enforcement, not shared
stewardship.
