This role is central to enabling researchers to generate world-class data and advancing innovative scientific discoveries.

The IMB Mass Spectrometry Platform is home to a suite of state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, and robotic instrumentation, that has been refined and optimised to investigate biological systems in a high-throughput qualitative and quantitative manner.

The Platform Manager provides direct management and oversight of the suite of IMB Mass Spectrometry equipment, technical and analytical services, user training and support.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the state-of-the-art IMB Mass Spectrometry Platform, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective services for users.
  • Develop and implement complex and novel mass spectrometry workflows for detecting, characterising and quantifying biomolecules across diverse biological matrices.
  • Provide expert technical advice, research support and user training, including: supporting the various stages of research, from concept through to experimental approach, including design, methodology, data acquisition and data processing, and project reporting and publication;
  • Provide technical advice, guidance and review of cutting-edge mass spectrometry developments to support future grant applications (e.g., ARC LIEF) for next-generation systems and capabilities.
  • Continually assess asset lifecycles and usage, identifying equipment for retirement and/or replacement.
  • Prepare and manage budgets that sustain Institute and Platform objectives.
  • Maintain stakeholder communications for the platform, including digital and web channels.
  • Lead ongoing strategic and operational planning, including regular reporting on performance, actions and future directions.
  • Liaise with instrument engineers, manufacturers and technical staff to ensure equipment is optimised with minimal downtime.
