O Centro de Biotecnologia Agrícola e Agro-Alimentar do Alentejo – CEBAL abre concurso para a contratação de um Mestre, para atividades de investigação, com a referência interna CBL001/OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE2026, no âmbito do projeto intitulado “Estratégias de adaptação do setor oleícola às alterações climáticas: o potencial das cultivares tradicionais Portuguesas - OLIVETOCLIMATECHANGE” (Ref: ALT2030-FEDER-02665400), cofinanciado pelo Programa Regional Alentejo 2030, aviso ALT2030-2024-60 – SACCCT - Investigação científica e tecnológica - Projetos de IC&DT, através do Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER),.As funções a desempenhar focam-se no desenvolvimento científico de diferentes tarefas inerentes ao projeto de IC&DT OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE, que tem por objetivos caracterizar as principais cultivares tradicionais Portuguesas no que diz respeito à sua capacidade de resistência a cenários climáticos extremos, bem como a sua resistência às principais pragas e doenças do olival. Assegurar a realização de tarefas de acordo com o plano de atividades do projeto OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE, nomeadamente:
- Estabelecer o perfil sensorial dos azeites com DOP de abrangência à região do Baixo Alentejo;
- Caraterizar do ponto de vista químico e sensorial, as principais cultivares tradicionais Portuguesas;
- Avaliar, de acordo com os diferentes cadernos de especificações das DOP em azeite com abrangência à área geográfica da região do Baixo Alentejo, quais as cultivares que poderão ser mais suscetíveis a sofrer redução significativa de produtividade/perda de qualidade;
- Outras atividades inerente à posição que irá ser desempenhada.
The Alentejo Centre for Agricultural and Agri-Food Biotechnology (CEBAL) is opening a call for applications for the recruitment of a Master’s degree holder to carry out research activities, under the internal reference CBL001/OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE2026, within the framework of the project entitled “Adaptation strategies for the olive oil sector to climate change: the potential of traditional Portuguese cultivars – OLIVETOCLIMATECHANGE” (Ref. ALT2030-FEDER-02665400).
The project is co-funded by the Alentejo 2030 Regional Programme, under call ALT2030-2024-60 – SACCCT – Scientific and Technological Research – R&D Projects, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The successful candidate will contribute to the scientific implementation of various tasks within the OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE R&D project. The project aims to characterise the main traditional Portuguese olive cultivars in terms of their ability to withstand extreme climate scenarios, as well as their resistance to the main olive pests and diseases.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out activities in accordance with the OLIVEtoCLIMATECHANGE project work plan, namely:
- Establishing the sensory profiles of olive oils covered by Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) applicable to the Baixo Alentejo region;
- Chemically and sensorially characterising the main traditional Portuguese olive cultivars;
- Assessing, in accordance with the product specifications of the PDOs covering olive oil produced in the Baixo Alentejo geographical area, which cultivars may be more susceptible to significant reductions in productivity and/or loss of quality;
- Performing other activities relevant to the position.

Skills/Qualifications
- Experiência comprovada em caracterização química, domínio de HPLC, e outros métodos de caraterização e quantificação química e bioquímica de azeites e de azeitona;
- Experiência no tratamento de dados, e domínio de análise estatística;
- Experiência em análise organolética;
- Excelentes competências comunicacionais orais e escritas;
- Excelente orientação para os resultados, e capacidade de trabalho em equipa;
- Será fator de total preferência, em condições de igualdade, residência na região Alentejo, e disponibilidade imediata.
- Carta de condução e veículo próprio;
- Proven experience in chemical characterisation, proficiency in HPLC, and other methods for the chemical and biochemical characterisation and quantification of olive oil and olives;
- Experience in data processing and proficiency in statistical analysis;
- Experience in sensory analysis;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent results-oriented approach and ability to work as part of a team;
- In the event of equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates residing in the Alentejo region and available to start immediately;
- Valid driving licence and access to a private vehicle.
Specific Requirements
São admitidos a concurso os(as) candidatos(as) que reúnam cumulativamente os seguintes requisitos:
- Grau de Mestre na área da Química Analítica, Química, Bioquímica, Biotecnologia ou áreas afins;
- Experiência técnico-científica de pelo menos 1 ano de trabalho experimental/laboratorial em metodologias de quantificação analítica para avaliação de perfis químicos, tanto ao nível experimental como ao nível da análise de resultados;
- Carta de condução de veículos ligeiros (Categoria B);
- Bons conhecimentos de Língua inglesa, e obrigatoriedade no domínio escrito e oral da Língua portuguesa.
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible to apply:
- A Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field;
- At least one year of technical and scientific experience in experimental/laboratory work involving analytical quantification methodologies for the assessment of chemical profiles, including both experimental work and data analysis;
- A valid Category B driving licence (passenger vehicles);
- Good knowledge of English, and proficiency in both written and spoken Portuguese.

A contratação realizar-se-á através de Contrato a Termo Incerto, em regime de direito privado, a celebrar nos termos do Código do Trabalho, alínea h) do nº2 do art.º 140, e de acordo com a nova legislação, em vigor a 1 de outubro de 2019. O vencimento base corresponderá à 1ª ou 2ª posição remuneratória da Carreira Geral de Técnico Superior (1499,15 ou 1762,31€), dependendo da experiência profissional do candidato e da sua adequação às funções a desempenhar, sujeito a possíveis atualizações da Tabela Remuneratória Única (TRU) em vigor. De referir que o recurso humano tem ainda direito ao subsídio de alimentação, por cada dia de trabalho efetivo, e aos subsídios de Férias e Natal, de acordo com a legislação em vigor.
The appointment will be made under an open-ended fixed-term employment contract, governed by private law and entered into in accordance with the Portuguese Labour Code, specifically Article 140(2)(h), and the new legislation in force as of 1 October 2019.
The basic salary will correspond to the 1st or 2nd salary step of the Senior Technical Officer career category within the General Career Framework (€1,499.15 or €1,762.31, respectively), subject to any updates to the Unified Remuneration Table (URT) in force.
It should also be noted that the employee is entitled to a meal allowance for each day actually worked, as well as holiday and Christmas allowances, in accordance with the legislation in force.

Selection process
Os critérios de seleção serão os seguintes, com a respetiva valorização:
- Avaliação curricular (avaliação do Curriculum vitae, de acordo com o especificado nos requisitos de admissão) - 50%;
- Grau de adequação do curriculum do candidato às funções a desempenhar - 50%.
O júri poderá considerar necessária a realização de uma entrevista individual aos candidatos mais bem colocados. Neste âmbito, os critérios de seleção e a respetiva valorização serão os seguintes:
- Avaliação curricular (avaliação do Curriculum vitae, de acordo com o especificado nos requisitos de admissão) - 50%;
- Grau de adequação do curriculum do candidato às funções a desempenhar - 40%;
- Entrevista individual - 10%.
Na eventualidade de nenhum dos candidatos ao concurso reunir o perfil adequado, o júri reserva-se o direito de encerrar o concurso sem selecionar um candidato.

If none of the applicants is considered to have a suitable profile for the position, the selection panel reserves the right to close the recruitment procedure without selecting a candidate.

Publication of results
The final assessment results will be published in a ranked list, in descending order of score, displayed in a publicly accessible and visible location at CEBAL. All applicants will be notified by email.
Deadlines and procedures for submitting complaints
Applicants shall have 10 working days from the date of publication of the assessment results to submit their comments, should they wish to do so, during the prior hearing of interested parties, in accordance with the provisions of the Portuguese Code of Administrative Procedure.
