The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has over 30 full-time faculty and offers a bachelor's degree in mathematics with two options: pure mathematics/secondary teaching and applied mathematics/statistics. We also offer a master's program with two degrees: one degree with emphases in mathematics education and pure mathematics; and a second degree with options in applied mathematics and statistics. The department currently has approximately 350 undergraduate major students and 50 graduate students, and serves over 5,000 students each semester.

Cal Poly Pomona has a student body with broad socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and the department is looking for faculty who can thrive and contribute meaningfully in this environment. Our majors reflect the overall university student population, with over 50% from underrepresented groups, as well as approximately 40% first generation college students. Position description:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor with expertise in applied mathematics with a preference for those who specialize in nonlinear optimization, the mathematics of machine learning, or stochastic modeling. The faculty member in this position will teach mathematics and/or statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. It is expected that the new faculty member will engage in scholarly research or grant activity and serve on department, college, and university committees. They also will have the chance to mentor undergraduate research and graduate student master's thesis projects.
