Mech Vehicle S11 - Vehicle Mechanic
As part of a team of vehicle mechanics responsible for a variety of vehicle mechanic services, perform routine service, repairs and preventative maintenance on the Cornell Fleet vehicles (buses, motor coaches, trucks, vans, cars). Complete major and minor repair work on gas and alternative fuel (natural gas, electric, propane) engines and diesel engines. Work with the Fleet Manager on complex maintenance and repair of buses and motor coaches. This is a Contract College, union position within the UAW. The starting pay rate is $32.07/hour. We require these qualifications: Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds, High School Diploma or equivalent, Minimum of 5 years vehicle mechanic experience with specific experience in air brakes and hydraulic systems diagnosis and repair, Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license, Have and maintain a commercial driver's license with air brake and passenger endorsement or obtain license within 3 months of hire, Have and maintain NYS vehicle inspector’s license or obtain one within 3 months of hire, Must comply with the regulations of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Article 19-A of the vehicle and traffic law, Knowledge of NYS DOT rules related to buses, vans etc. and record keeping requirements, Experience using tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment, Demonstrated ability to work effectively with peers, Effective communication skills and customer service skills, Ability to utilize time effectively and work steadily and conscientiously, Ability to exercise good judgment with respect to vehicle and bus repairs and equipment safety, Proficiency using computers and ability to learn new software programs, May be required to accept occasional overtime assignments, Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, Required to work flexible hours including weekends to provide vehicle turnaround, Must be able to lift and/or move 100 pounds, Work requires standing, bending, climbing ladders. You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school with certification in automotive or diesel technology, Associate's degree in automotive/diesel technology field, Experience maintaining buses and motor coaches.
