Media & Sound Engineer
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Theatre Department Chair, the Media & Sound Engineer is responsible for production, design and implementation, and maintenance of audio and video systems in production facilities, performance venues, remote locations and classrooms, supporting instruction performance and outside rental clients. Provides media and audio production support services for the Theatre Arts Department and outside organizations utilizing Theatre and related COTA facilities. Designs sound and media for department productions. Assists and trains students, faculty, staff, and designers with the operation of the production equipment for use in classroom and performance venues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design sound and video department productions assigned. Collaborate with sound and video designers for all Theatre Arts department productions including production of manipulation and playback of voiceovers, dialogue, sound effects, and music on student and faculty productions, tracking, mixing of live and recorded sound.
- Order, installation, operation and maintenance of audio/visual facilities, equipment and materials for production, instructional and performance purposes including the use of "smart cart" systems.
- Provide instructional support for video and audio as required by the department.
- Documents acceptable/best practices, trains and supervises student assistants and student crews in production, performance and production support in the audio/video areas.
- Provide production and event support for outside rentals and other campus users in Theatre Arts Facilities as well as the University Theatre.
- Coordinates the set-up, strike, maintenance and repair of the Department's Mac show-run computers and audio/video consoles.
- Recommends audio/video equipment and software that supports theatrical production/performance and classroom instruction.
- Read daily rehearsal/production reports and address issues on a daily basis.
