Medical Assistant
Provides assistive care to patients. Facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care, supports the professional role of the licensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Assists with clerical and administrative functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Completion of a certified Medical Assistant/Licensed Vocational Nurse program or equivalency required; Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology and basic non-invasive diagnostic equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and ophthalmoscope and otoscope) as well as a general understanding of basic physical examination.
- Must have basic desktop computer skills and have a general knowledge of Computers, printer, telephone, adding machine, file cabinets, literature sorters, mailing supplies and internet, copy machine, fax machine, scanner and shredders.
- Excellent customer/patient satisfaction skills including the ability to display courtesy and consideration to patients, guests, physicians and staff.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Any combination of education, training, experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Medical Assistant Certificate or LVN licensing from an accredited course of study is required.
Experience:
- 2 – 3 years prior experience in a medical office environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and various types of medical testing equipment or devices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Bilingual helpful but not required.
Software:
Use Electronic Medical Record and Practice Management Software programs, as well as Microsoft office and other applicable software packages.
