Located in Ōtautahi | Christchurch, Aotearoa | New Zealand
- 4 weeks annual leave + 5 days university holidays
- 1 year fixed-term position (Parental leave)
- 30.5 hours per week (0.81 FTE)
Rostered hours of work:
- 7.5 hours on Monday, Tuesday and Friday
- 8 hours on Thursday

Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
UC's Health Centre are seeking a motivated and highly organised Medical Receptionist to join the team as a first point of contact. You will be responsible for providing quality customer service in order to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the Health Centre whilst providing an exceptional standard of care to the patients. The role will include general reception duties including greeting students and staff and responding to counter, phone and email enquiries to ensure a professional, friendly and resourceful reception area. You will also support the Practice Manager with delegated administrative duties ensuring all funding opportunities are processed and accounted for in a timely manner.
Mōu | Who You Are
To be successful in this role, you will bring proven experience in a busy front-facing reception or administration position ideally within a medical or health services environment. You will be confident managing patient enquiries, coordinating appointments, and supporting clinical staff to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of a healthcare reception.
You will also demonstrate:
- Previous experience in a medical reception or healthcare administration role, supporting patients and clinical staff in a fast-paced environment
- Intermediate computer skills, including experience with medical practice software (ideally Medtech Evolution) and Microsoft Office systems
- Knowledge of the Health Information Privacy Code and the Code of Practice for Health and Disability Services, with the ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with a diverse patient community
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear information and respond effectively to enquiries
- Proven attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks while managing a busy reception environment
