Medical Research Technician, Virology TNPRC - Microbiology

Summary
The Medical Research Technician will be responsible for performing experiments in the level 2 and level 3 laboratories. The Medical Research Technician will be trained by the Core Manager as well as by the Institutional Department of Biosafety and will work on Risk Group 3 (RG3) agents such as coronaviruses and others, including Mpox, polio, mycobacterium tuberculosis, coxiella burnetii, Bacillus antracis, Brucella abortis, Burkholderia pseudomallei. Necessary experiments include those involving molecular biology, pathology, immunology and microbiology, in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The Medical Research Technician also conducts research analysis and prepares reports; operates daily functions of the laboratory, maintains experimental records; orders and keeps track of laboratory specimens, supplies and inventory, contributes to publication research and development activities. Ensure OSHA, Biosafety and University medical, safety and training requirements are met for the laboratory.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BS)
- 0-2 years of laboratory experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in any one of the following streams of sciences: microbiology, immunology, cell-biology, genetics, molecular biology, infectious disease, biological or general science.
- Knowledge of BSL3 bio-containment principles and protocols
- Experience the culturing and characterization of viral pathogens in cell culture systems
- Highly proficient aseptic research techniques, working knowledge of standard operating protocols for handling of biological specimens, in vitro cultivation of mammalian cells and infectious virus.
