Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit Summer 2026 COACH College Program
The opportunity
The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 8-Friday, August 14, 2026. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week. Interns will earn $17.50-$21.50/hour.
This role is on-site at 300 Longwood Ave, Boston. Specific work hours will be determined by the supervisor.
What you'll do
- Front Desk & Patient Support
- Assist with admitting, transferring, and discharging patients in the EPIC system accurately and promptly
- Greet and assist visitors, patients, and staff in a friendly and professional manner; help direct them to the right location or person
- Create and organize new patient charts, maintain filing systems, and ensure documentation is up to date and easily accessible
- Collaborate with nurses to update patient bedside boards with the current nurse, physician, and clinical assistant information
- Unit Operations & Rounds
- Attend Flip Rounds: Participate in daily flip rounds to stay updated on patient status, room assignments, and any unit needs
- Environment of Care Checks: Conduct daily environmental rounds to identify and report broken equipment, cleanliness issues, or safety hazards
- Signage & Communication: Update and maintain unit signs and informational boards as needed to ensure clear communication
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Nurse Educator, PER Supervisor, and Clinical Nurses on various unit projects or process improvement initiatives
- Administrative Support: Provide general clerical and organizational support to the unit team as assigned
- Attend a 2-day program orientation and onboarding
- Participate in virtual and in-person workshops and activities

Who you are
- You are an undergraduate college student in good academic standing and will be enrolled in a two-or four-year program for Fall 2026, and you are interested in working in healthcare

Recruitment process

- Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program. This includes:
- Scheduling an appointment during one of our on-site onboarding days
- Obtaining appropriate work permits and documentation, as needed
- Health records
- Proof of Employment Eligibility
- Media release
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
