About the Project

Medicines optimisation at the end of life is essential in palliative and end of life care, where the priority shifts from disease treatment to enhancing quality of life and minimising harm. Previous studies have shown that PIMs in patients with palliative care needs are linked to negative outcomes, including reduced quality of life and increased symptom burden. This project will examine prescribing and medication use in patients receiving palliative and hospice care services. Research methods utilised may include quantitative methods of data collection such as questionnaires and review of healthcare records and data, and qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups.

Training that will be provided through the research project

Training will be provided in qualitative and quantitative research methods and evaluation of prescribing data.

Expected impact activities

Impact activities will include dissemination of findings at research conferences and in academic publications.
