Mental Health Adviser

LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university

Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive of London allowance

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost social science universities in the world, with a global reach and an international student intake. Student Wellbeing is central to the student experience: we aim to ensure that every student feels that they belong to a welcoming, inclusive, supportive, caring, scholarly community.

LSE’s Student Wellbeing Service provides a single, integrated approach to support students, offers advice to staff across The School, and leads a wider initiative to improve student wellbeing.

We are recruiting a permanent, full-time Mental Health Adviser (MHA) to help support students with mental health difficulties in our multi-disciplinary service.

The post-holder will play a key role in decision-making in relation to student risk, acting as Duty Mental Health Adviser, triaging, assessing and managing risk and will carry a caseload of students, offering ongoing support.

They will liaise both across The School and with community based mental health and primary care services in order to ensure students receive the right support.

The MHA role also includes putting in place reasonable adjustments for students with mental health conditions in order to meet LSE’s responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) as well as helping to promote inclusive practice across The School, by carrying out training and awareness-building activities for both staff and students in relation to mental health and disability.

We are looking for:

  • Candidates who can bring expertise to the role, working independently to manage their caseload and workload, whilst being an engaged and collaborative team member.
  • Candidates will have significant experience of working with students with complex mental health difficulties and have expert knowledge of mental health conditions as well as understanding their impact upon students.
  • Candidates should demonstrate an ability to make decisions independently, including assessing and managing risk issues and be aware of when to appropriately escalate concerns.
  • Candidates will be skilled in working with a range of clients from diverse backgrounds, as well as with a variety of presenting issues.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
