Metadata Specialist

The Metadata Specialist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the vendor supplied data and web access for the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center shared collection per existing policies and workflows.

The Metadata Specialist supports the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center collection by ensuring locally loaded serials data and metadata meets the requirements of OhioLINK e-resource agreements, policies, and procedures. The position is responsible for using in-house reporting tools to track incoming data for completeness and accuracy, identifying and managing requests for delivery of missing data and correction of inaccurate data, and monitoring access to subscribed journal content.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Ensures that the OhioLINK shared journal collection includes the correct content by reviewing reports and data to determine if the expected and correct data has been delivered locally and is available on vendor websites
  • Identifies missing and erroneous content in the Electronic Journal Center and follows up with vendors to claim and track missing data
  • Participates in special projects from time to time with other OhioLINK team members

OhioLINKs Electronic Journal Center (EJC) provides Ohio's college students and researchers with full-text access to 44 million scholarly articles (with more added daily) in over 13,000 journals across a wide range of academic subject areas. Access to journals is available from both publisher websites and from the EJC repository.

OhioLINK, along with the Ohio Supercomputer Center and OARnet, is part of the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH), the technology and information division of the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrable experience with and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrable experience with detailed data-related tasks

Desired Education/Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in academic library or publishing environment or an inventory management system in another industry
  • General knowledge of library serials management
  • Ability to create Microsoft Excel macros
