Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor, Teaching Track faculty position at the Integrated Innovation Institute (III). This is a full-time faculty position within CMU's Teaching Track, a career-oriented, non-tenure track with renewable fixed terms and opportunities for promotion. This position will split responsibilities between administration and teaching as Program Director for the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS). The finalist will oversee the strategic growth and administrative health of the MIIPS degree while maintaining a reduced teaching load. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between academics and professional practice.
Primary Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Manage daily student support and program operations, including curriculum design, accreditation compliance, and strategic enrollment growth.
- Student Success: Engage across the full student lifecycle-from recruitment and admissions to academic advising and graduation.
- Teaching Instruction: Teach across III programs, primarily focused on MIIPS courses.
This role will join a dynamic and collaborative department, focused on bringing together the interdisciplinary mindsets in engineering, design and business to further innovation and product development. Teaching Track faculty at Carnegie Mellon are full members of the academic community. As in other CMU Teaching Track appointments, in addition to teaching the successful candidate may contribute to the educational mission of the school through curriculum development, student mentorship, and other service. CMU's policy further provides that Teaching Track appointments confer faculty status without tenure, and that the ranks are Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, and Teaching Professor. Typical appointment terms under the policy are three years for Assistant Teaching Professor, three years initially and then five years for subsequent reappointments at Associate Teaching Professor, and five years for Teaching Professor.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Holds an advanced/terminal degree in a respected area related to product/service innovation.
- Maintains a distinguished teaching record, preferable in higher education.
- Demonstrates a significant and positive impact on curriculum and student development.
- Displays administrative or leadership experience (in academia or industry setting).
Preferred Requirements:
- Success in managing professional graduate students & international student populations.
- Experience in developing or administering academic programs and strategic program growth.
