Job Description

The Advanced Radar Research Center's Mixed-Signal Hardware Engineer participates in all phases of the product lifecycle including, concept creation, requirements definition, detailed design (e.g., analog, digital, schematic capture, PCB layout), analysis, overseeing the fabrication of hardware, testing, and integration. This position supports numerous projects at varying stages of lifecycle development and provides opportunities to engage in hands-on design, integration, and testing, while working collaboratively with professionals across multiple disciplines.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for mixed-signal electronic hardware, production, test, debugging, and design for manufacturing.
  • Performs mixed-signal circuit design and system-level evaluation.
  • Performs analysis, integration, test, debugging and some design work for printed circuit boards.
  • Performs hardware modification and solder rework, as needed.
  • Designs PCB layout, integration, and testing.
  • Designs and implements hardware communications, acquisition, and control systems.
  • Performs integration of circuit implementation and real-time testing.
  • Participates in field experiments and data validation.
  • Hands-on testing and debugging of circuitry.
  • Provide consulting to system-level designs, including costing, lead times, and alternative solutions.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:

  • 36 months of analog and digital design experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 84 months' related experience.

Departmental Preferences:

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent military/work experience
  • 2+ years experience or familiarity with the PCB fabrication and component placement process (both manual and automated)
  • Experience with radars and associated technologies, familiar with radar concepts such as RF/IF transceivers, microwave subsystems, and control systems
  • 3D CAD/modeling experience (e.g., Solid Works)
  • Knowledge of embedded hardware systems and familiarity with low-level protocols necessary to facilitate intercommunication between such systems
  • Proficiency in the design, analysis, modeling, integration, and testing of mixed-signal systems and subsystems
  • Proficiency in PCB layout (e.g., Altium Designer)
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment operation, spectrum/network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and function/waveform generators
  • RF/analog/digital circuit/system design, simulation, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in the design, analysis, modeling, integration, and testing of mixed-signal systems and subsystems
