MN Landscape Arboretum - Building and Grounds Worker

This position is located in Chaska at the Arboretum. The building crews’ hours of operations are Monday through Sunday between 6am-1am, however shifts will maintain a regular schedule with some flexibility for events.
The primary responsibility of a B+G full-time team member is daily, weekly, long-term cleaning and maintenance of 15 buildings of all types. In addition to cleaning, the full time B & G team member participates in set up and take down of event furnishings including large and small tables, chairs, and other equipment. This position will respond quickly to a wide variety of guest and service needs, infrastructure related issues, spills, furnishing requests, and related tasks. This position works closely with the Reservations unit, which contracts all rentals of Arboretum space. Contracted events include: Weddings, Receptions, Celebrations of Life, Conferences, and a variety of other types of celebrations. Sensitivity to the nature of these events is critical. This position will require attention to detail, sensitivity to guest satisfaction, and ability to collaborate and follow direction quickly & effectively. Job Duties
- 75% - Clean, with high proficiency, auditoriums, meeting rooms, public lobbies, offices, restrooms and other public areas. Job functions used to accomplish this could include but may extend beyond the following: empty trash, sweep, dust mop and wet mop floors, wash windows and fixtures, vacuum and extract carpets, clean restrooms, operate machines to help in these tasks and related jobs. Garbage bags weigh around 50 pounds each.
- 20% - Set up for room rentals. Set up and take down tables, chairs and other equipment for classes, meetings, rental groups and social functions. Tables weigh between 35 – 65 pounds each.
- 5% - Lock main public buildings, check that assigned sets are done correctly, turn off all lights in public areas and patrol grounds around main buildings. This position is responsible to pull in and put away anything that isn’t communicated as part of the next day’s events before you punch out for the day. And other seasonal jobs such as snow removal, application of salt or sand and changing of the clocks etc.

Required Qualifications
- Ability to meet the physical requirement of the assignment.
- Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner.
- Must have a valid MN Driver's License.
- Ability to work evenings. Please note some events extend past midnight.
- Ability to read and write competently in English, follow oral and written instructions.
- Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience using Gmail and some use of Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint – as a communication device)
- Demonstrates resilience and grace under pressure
- Ability to accept and harness constructive feedback
- Anticipates common needs and takes appropriate initiative to promote a comfortable guest experience
Preferred Qualifications
- High school graduate
- Experience in the events or hospitality/service industry
- Prior event set up experience
- Proven ability to work successfully alone or with two to four colleagues
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
