MnSCU Academic Professional 2 - African American Empowerment Coordinator
Job Details
This position’s purpose is to lead the day-to-day operations of the African American Empowerment (AME) initiative, co-lead the Bridging the Equity Gap (BTEG) Scholarship Program, and antevasin programs, through providing a full range of retention, programming, and outreach services to support the academic success of African and African American students. This position will develop, evaluate and implement methods of linking Minneapolis College students to the opportunities that AME/BTEG offer to the campus community.
This position recruits prospective students by developing relationships with students and their families through enrollment services. The position serves to actively provide retention services and make informative program decisions through academic advising, special initiatives and monitoring key success indicators for student retention and degree completion. The outreach efforts includes working closely with Minneapolis and Saint Paul public schools, community organizations, co-chairing various committees and program sponsored events, public speaking, recruiting, tutoring, event and workshop planning.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and develop African American Empowerment and BTEG programming
- Manage African American leadership development.
- Engage in community outreach on behalf of Minneapolis College African American programs.
- Manage advising system and corresponding reports for current programs.
- Support Equity and Inclusion Division and other duties as assigned related to the operations of the African American Empowerment Initiative
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with academic programs, enrollment management processes, and student affairs department resources and functions.
- Knowledge of Federal/State financial aid programs.
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures for admissions.
- Ability to make decisions, communicate and collaborate with others.
- Knowledge and experience working in equity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the market analysis, marketing, and targeting of student populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis related to student development.
- Experience advising, teaching, or related student services experience.
- Ability to provide and maintain follow-up statistical reports on enrollment and retention of program participants.
- Ability to persuade, motivate and lead students.
- Experience working in a college setting.
- Understanding of the interrelationships of student services with other college programs and units.
