MnSCU Academic Professional 3 - Student Basic Needs Navigator
The Student Basic Needs Navigator supports Riverland Community College students who are struggling with issues such as food security, housing stability, healthcare and mental health access, as other emergent situations that arise to threaten to interrupt a student’s higher education enrollment due to financial constraints. This position will develop, direct, coordinate, and implement resources for students struggling to meet their own basic needs and will also serve students with disabilities to allow equal access to all college programs and activities. The Basic Needs Coordinator will oversee work by student workers and volunteers and develop and administer program grant budgets. The incumbent also serves as an advocate for students and a resource for staff and faculty for supportive services within the college community and the larger communities in which the college resides. Collaborates closely with Student Support Specialist, and the Accessibility Services Specialist.
Salary Range: $27.84 - $40.82 / $58,130.00 - $85,232.00
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field such as social work, ethnic studies, higher education, psychology, counseling or human services -OR- Associate’s Degree plus two (2) years of related experience -OR- equivalent combination of education and experience. An associate degree could be substituted for 6-months of experience, a bachelor’s degree is 12-months and a master’s degree is 18-months. Public speaking sufficient to present information clearly and actionable to large groups. Human relations/customer service sufficient to actively listen to and understand students’ needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives, meet quality of service needs, and evaluate student satisfaction. Knowledge of intervention techniques sufficient to meet basic needs of the student population.
Preferred Qualification
Master’s Degree/s in Social Work, Ethic Studies or another related field. Experience with a student record system such as ISRS; as well as other data and communication tools. Three or more years of experience within higher education student services, preferably in the Minnesota State College and Universities system. Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Pohnpeian, French, Anuak, Nuer, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities. Demonstrated experience working with a multicultural and underserved populations.
