Movember is the world's leading charity changing the face of men's health. Dedicated to addressing the most pressing health concerns facing boys and men, its mission is to build a future where men and their communities can live healthier and longer lives.
The Movember Institute of Men's Health, launched in 2023, is Movember's research and advocacy arm. It brings together experts, communities, and partners to accelerate research and turn it into real-world impact, raising the profile of men's health with policymakers and reshaping how health services reach and support men. The Movember Institute of Men's Health has established a global Discovery Research Program to develop the next generation of men's health researchers, build sector capacity, drive innovation, and generate high-impact translational research.
The Movember Institute Discovery Fellowship is a five-year award for Postdoctoral Fellows in Canada to lead their own program of research, be mentored by world-leading Professorial Fellow John Oliffe at University of British Columbia and join a global cohort tackling the most pressing challenges in boys' and young men's (aged 12-35 years) emotional and relational health. Discovery Fellows will establish a program of research across one or more thematic areas: 1) Coping and Consumption; 2) Social Connection; or 3) Early Fatherhood.
Theme 1: Coping and Consumption
Understanding how boys and young men navigate and respond to stress, adversity, and trauma, and the role that alcohol, other drugs, gambling, pornography and other consumption behaviours play.
Theme 2: Social Connection
Understanding how relationships with peers, partners, family and community - and the nature, quality or absence of those connections - shape boys' and young men's emotional and relational health.
Theme 3: Early Fatherhood
Understanding the transition to fatherhood as a critical window for men's emotional and relational health, including perinatal mental health, paternal identity, the health of families, and engagement with health and support services.
