The Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA) at Harvard Kennedy School seeks a creative and organized Multimedia Producer to support the school’s communications efforts. This role develops and manages multimedia content—including video, photography, audio, animation, and motion graphics—to amplify HKS initiatives and engage diverse audiences across digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will possess strong multimedia, digital content creation, and project management skills and a high degree of initiative, creativity, flexibility, and self-direction. They will have a keen eye for visual storytelling, excellent editorial judgement, and be a self-starter willing to search for storytelling opportunities and collaborate on content creation. They must be highly motivated, organized, and accountable, with a creative spirit and a sharp awareness of current events, media trends, and cultural conversations. A genuine curiosity and willingness to continuously grow and adapt are essential.

Duties Include:

  • Assist in the creation and posting of digital content on the School’s flagship digital channels including, but not limited to, filming and editing short form and long form videos; recording and filming of podcasts; photographing and editing images; and more –– all on a tight deadline.
  • Coordinate and arrange video shoots, including securing locations, obtaining releases, preparing talent, and other production duties.
  • Support the School’s mission and communications strategy by searching for content creation opportunities.
  • Partner with other content creators, including writers, to identify opportunities for creative collaboration.
  • Ensure all multimedia content follow best practices in digital accessibility, including producing open and closed captions for videos.
  • Stay current on multimedia trends and make suggestions for the School’s digital communications strategy.
  • Manage the campus digital screens by uploading and scheduling content.
  • Assist with the stewardship of multimedia project files.
  • Provides multimedia coverage, including photography and/or videography, at events that may occur outside of office hours.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years of related experience, including demonstrated experience in video production, including storyboarding, scriptwriting, shooting, lighting and audio.

Additional Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field preferred; Experience in a strong communications/deadline-oriented setting; Exceptional project management skills; Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies quickly and effectively; Proven successful work experience in higher education, digital media, publishing, and/or content strategy environment; Demonstrated ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines, and levels of expertise; Understanding of accessibility best practices for video and photography.
