Job Description

The music program at College of Marin provides transfer and professional preparation, personal development, general education, and an Associate's in Arts degree. It offers students a foundation in theoretical and practical skills and opportunities to perform in various ensembles.

Applicants should have knowledge and demonstrated excellence in teaching one or more of the following General Education classes:

• Introduction to Classical Music
• Rock, Pop and Jazz
• Introduction to World Music
• Music of Latin America

Applicants should also have a desire to help grow the program and be prepared to teach other music courses such as Music Fundamentals.

Essential Functions

Instructors may cover part-time, temporary, and substitute openings, including:

• Providing effective classroom or laboratory instruction using appropriate methods and materials
• Preparing and grading assignments and examinations
• Advising, assisting, and evaluating students, maintaining regular office hours
• Participating in program activities like curriculum development and evaluation
• Maintaining accurate student records and currency in the assigned area
• Communicating with excellent written and oral skills in English

Requirements

Requirements:

• A Master's degree in Music; or
• A Bachelor's degree in Music and a Master's degree in Humanities; or
• The equivalent; and
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Attributes & Skills:

• Experience in ensemble conducting
• Competencies in curriculum development, teaching and learning theory, and evaluating student outcomes
• Ability to communicate clearly with a diverse community
• Strong organizational skills and commitment to the teaching profession
• Familiarity with multiple teaching methods, including computer-based and online pedagogy

Salary Information

Salary Range: $90,657 - $124,850 annually for full-time, adjusted for part-time based on units taught.
