Overview
This role involves planning, configuring, installing, and maintaining the college’s network communications infrastructure. The Network Administrator manages data, voice, wireless, and security systems while identifying opportunities to improve operations and efficiency while enhancing security. This role participates in efforts to develop strategies for on-premise and cloud connectivity and redundancy, as well as manages disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
This position requires onsite hands-on work that requires an average of 1-2 work days onsite per week, with the exception of weeks focused on particular project work.
About The Department:
Macalester College's Information Technology Services (ITS) department offers comprehensive services to support the campus community's technological needs. These services include project management, systems consulting, software implementation and maintenance, database management, and data reporting. Additionally, ITS manages the campus network, telecommunications systems, central servers, and information security architecture.
Responsibilities
- Campus and data center networking: Install, configure and manage campus and data center networking, including routing, switching, wireless access and fiber optic connections.
- Network applications, security, and services: Oversee VoIP management and integration with other campus infrastructure. Administer network applications including IPAM, DHCP, DNS, IPTV, network monitoring and reporting tools.
- Internet and cloud computing: Support cloud computing technologies, including administering and troubleshooting cloud/hosted software and environments. Assist in developing and maintaining an ongoing plan for integrating cloud services to meet campus needs.
- Backup and disaster recovery: Assist in disaster recovery planning and connectivity, including remote and cloud data centers. Maintain regular backups for network and server systems.
- Collaboration and project management: Seek help from and offer guidance to other team members. Support diversity and inclusion for everyone in the campus community. Assist in managing network-related projects; ensure projects are completed within stated timeframes. Work with outside vendors and contractors on network-related projects.
- Other responsibilities: Complete other responsibilities as assigned. Participate as an active member of the team and in department and college activities. Support implementation of shared goals and initiatives. Provide backup support to other members of the team.
Qualifications
The position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.
- Three to 5 years’ experience with data networks, network-related systems administration, or other relevant IT experience required. Knowledge of and/or certification in Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Zoom Phone and/or Palo Alto Networks systems preferred.
- At least 2 years of Windows or Linux/Unix server experience required.
- Cloud experience: OCI, GCS, AWS, Azure, or similar desired.
- Scripting experience: PowerShell, Bash, Perl, Python, or other desired.
Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is $85,272 - $89,148, depending on experience.
