Next-generation electrified membrane reactor for chemicals production
About the Project
The deployment of next-generation chemical processes requires the implementation of new equipment and materials that will enhance the performance in terms of economics and environmental performance.
This project bridges the deployment of decarbonisation technologies, a carbon-neutral economy and sustainability.
The project novelty lies on development and lab-scale proof-of-concept of electrification (via renewable energy), integrated reactor and separation (through selective membrane) and process techno-economics.
The main field of application of this research is the chemical industry, and in particular, the synthesis of carbon-neutral olefins which are the building blocks for polymers (plastic) or fuels, responsible approx. 5% of global CO2 emissions.
The project objectives are:
- Design and test an electrified configuration for relevant chemical production starting from green hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
- Proof-of-concept, modelling and energy analysis of new intensified modular units (membrane and reactor).
