University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Office of Academic Affairs, is seeking applications for the Non-Credit International Programs Instructor (Casual Hire).
Important note: Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Continuation is dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs, and renewal of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, teach courses assigned.
- Develop curriculum and teach non-credit English as a Second Language courses to include Hawai‘i and U.S. customs and practices
- Specialize in content specific to contract training.
- Evening, weekend courses, and distance education courses may be assigned.
- Ability to communicate clearly and to teach for a variety of audiences, including adult learners.
- Teaching assignment is as needed and dependent upon course enrollment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Functionally native oral and written fluency in English and one of the following:
- Masters in English (language or literature) OR
- Masters in English as a Second Language; OR
- Masters in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak English OR
- Masters in Linguistics, TESOL, Education, or another language with at least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, English literature, English culture, OR
- Bachelors Degree in any field and 3 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language courses in an educational setting.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the community college or university level.
- Demonstrated ability to work with adult and non-traditional learners.
- Experience teaching in online settings.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse team of people.
- Good classroom management skills.
