The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale) invites applications for an Lecture position in Industrial Design. This position is 25% FTE. The successful candidate will teach one Industrial Design course during the Fall and Spring semesters. Ideal candidates will have prior industrial design professional experience and teaching capabilities.

Due to the newly established $100,000 fee for H-1B petitions requesting consular processing outside of the U.S., Southern Illinois University is unable to provide H-1B sponsorship at this time for any prospective applicant who is outside of the U.S. and requires consular processing.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

Teaching undergraduate and graduate level design courses. (one course per semester) This includes holding office hours, grading, and submission of final grades.
Develop course materials that prepare students for subsequent design courses.
Participate in Design Portfolio Evaluation and occasional program planning or recruitment activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following:

A terminal degree in a design-related discipline. (e.g., Ph.D. in Design, MFA in Industrial Design, MDes or MS in Industrial Design, or closely related field) by time of hire.
A BFA or BA degree with a specialization in Industrial Design plus a minimum of 5 years of professional industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior college-level teaching experience.
Professional experience in industrial design practice.
Experience with shop tools, rapid prototyping, and digital fabrication workflows.

Required Documents: Submit a letter of application with a description of personal interests and qualifications for the position, CV, statement of teaching and teaching philosophy, portfolio or portfolio website URL, examples of teaching outcomes, and three references.
