Nurse I or Nurse II, MRI

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Community Engagement (OCE) is currently recruiting for a Nurse I or Nurse II, MRI position.

Candidates will be considered for either the Nurse I or Nurse II, MRI position. Level of the position will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications.

The MRI Nurse I or II will work with the director of health and wellness to meet community and neighbor healthcare needs. This position will provide professional nursing care and related services. Additional responsibilities include supporting the health of community residents through participation in outreach and community events, providing health coaching and education in various local communities, and assisting community residents with social determinants of health and improving health literacy.

This position will not directly perform research activities.

MRI Nurse I: PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Provides individual instruction, guidance and counseling on health problems, concerns, treatments, and procedures in various local communities. Screens, assesses, triages, manages, and provides care coordination for community residents with a variety of health concerns and/or co-morbidities.
  2. Assists in the development and implementation of various health education, health promotion, and disease prevention activities. Build rapports and relationships with community residents, organizations, and partners. Builds rapport and relationships with community residents (between appointments and post-discharge, organizations, and partners.
  3. Evaluates the nature and severity of patient's problem utilizing nursing assessment skills. Determines appropriate level of care needed and develops a nursing plan of care. Assists community residents by reducing barriers to care and healthy living and maintaining their care plans.
  4. Performs various nursing procedures.
  5. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures such as infection control, immunization, and safety.
  6. Participates in quality assurance activities such as peer review, medical record review, program evaluation, and quality improvement efforts.
  7. Coordinates referrals to community or other health and human service facilities and serves as a patient liaison with these facilities. Provides community referrals to the Community Engagement Center (CEC) or other local resources. Collaborates with community health worker(s) and nurse team members. Supports the health of community residents through participation in outreach and community events.
  8. Collects, performs, and/or interprets laboratory tests.

MRI Nurse II: PRIMARY DUTIES

This position will not directly perform research activities.

  1. Develops and implements health education programs such as health promotion and disease prevention activities in various local communities. Screens, assesses, triages, manages, and provides care coordination for community residents with a variety of health concerns and/or co-morbidities.
  2. Develops and implements policies and procedures such as infection control, immunization, and safe work practices.
  3. Initiates and implements health related projects.
  4. Provides guidance, instruction or training to other nurses and auxiliary personnel.
  5. Provides individual instruction, guidance and counseling on health problems, concerns, treatments, and procedures. Builds rapport and relationships with community residents, organizations, and partners. Builds rapport and relationships with community residents (between appointments and post-discharge, organizations, and partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - MRI Nurse I:

Education: N/A.

Experience: N/A.

Other: Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse under Maryland State Law.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Work Schedule: 40 hours a week with flexibility in scheduling (e.g., four 10-hour days); occasional evening and weekend events may occur.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - MRI Nurse I:

General knowledge of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses. General knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and infection control including blood and body fluid precautions. Ability to perform extensive standing and walking. Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform various medical and nursing procedures and to operate medical equipment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data. Skill and ability to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies, and facilities. General knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality of records and communications regarding clients.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examination to determine ability to perform the job. Employees in this job class may be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Overtime, weekend, on-call, and shift work may be required in some positions. Employees in this job class will be required to comply with the Maryland Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses.

Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).

Education: N/A.

Experience: Three (3) years directly related experience as a Registered Nurse.

Other: Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse under Maryland State Law.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Work Schedule: 40 hours a week with flexibility in scheduling (e.g., four 10-hour days); occasional evening and weekend events may occur.
