Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) - Acute & Critical Care Surgery

Position Summary

Work schedule and shifts: Employee will be working 10 hour days, 6am-4pm, with weekend and holiday rotations in hospital based setting.

Bonus and incentive programs: Additional bonus paid for working weekends, holidays, and additional shifts outside of regularly scheduled 4, 10 hour weekly schedule.

Clinic overview: Clinic commitment is minimal requirement of team members supporting post hospital discharge care.

Team structure and interactions: Advanced practice practitioners (APPs) in acute critical care settings will work as part of a team with doctors, nurses, and other specialists, and their responsibilities.

Day-in-the-life snapshot: Will be managing patient care, taking patient histories, performing physical exams, ordering lab tests, diagnosing and treating patients, prescribing medications, and stabilizing patients through medical decision making. This includes managing patients care, taking patient histories, performing physical exams, ordering lab tests, diagnosing and treating patients, prescribing medications, and stabilizing patients, collaborating with other ancillary team members through communication with doctors and other nurses, collaborating with colleagues on diagnoses, and coordinating specialist and multi-specialty care. Will be responsible for supporting families through patient’s current medical circumstance by providing education.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
  • Orders and interprets the full spectrum of diagnostic tests and procedures, including x-ray, electrocardiogram, hemodynamic monitoring, and laboratory tests.
  • Performs critical care ultrasound.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Formulates differential diagnoses and diagnoses.
  • Plans, implements, and directs treatment and management of patients with acute, critical, and/or complex conditions and evaluates outcomes of care.
  • Documents patient history, physical examination, assessment, and plans of care in patient medical record.
  • Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or provides referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.
  • Performs invasive procedures commonly utilized in the critical care setting.
  • Bills for professional services as permitted by collaborative practice agreement.
  • Supports 24/7 staffing model, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedules staff in various critical care settings, including telemedicine.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
  • Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Participates in emergency and critical care situations, providing rapid assessment, stabilization, and initiation of treatment for the acutely ill or injured patients.
  • Regularly participates in quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care. Serves as clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing.

Required Qualifications

Education: M.S.N. - Master Of Science In Nursing - Nurse Practitioner

Certifications: The list below may include all acceptable certifications and issuers. More than one credential or certification may be required depending on the role. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) - American Nurses Credentialing Center, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association, Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration, Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Practitioner - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Certified Nurse Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration, Z - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association

More About This Job

Required Qualifications: Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or recent completion/anticipated completion of accredited ACNP program. APRN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire. Active MO license and in good standing, or ability to obtain. Certain/additional certifications or experience may be necessary based on area of specialty. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days.
