We are searching for an experienced Nurse Practitioner at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Nurse Practitioner will provide college health medical care to all eligible patients, as a member of the Student Health and Wellness Center team (SHWC), under the supervision of the SHWC medical director/licensed physician. The Nurse Practitioner will also aid in handling a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day clinical operations of the SHWC in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and in collaboration with the whole SHWC team. The Nurse Practitioner will also aid in the development, implementation, and evaluation of relevant health education/promotion programs directed toward the student population. The role of the Nurse Practitioner is to promote the restoration of health and achievement of patient health goals through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the delivery of patient care. The Nurse practitioner will also participate in SHWC activities including accreditation, quality improvement, and complies with all SHWC bylaws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Director/Physician of the Student Health and Wellness Center.

  • Provides assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate medical management for acute illnesses, injuries and stable chronic illnesses as well as primary care services such as health maintenance care and annual physicals including ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, making specialty referrals and dispensing medications. Independently seeks consultation with director/physician in maintaining both acute and chronic cases. Participates in the peer review process.
  • Collect subjective data (obtain history). Collect objective data (perform a physical exam). Develop an assessment (diagnosis). Develop and implement a management plan. Facilitate the referral of patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies and resources within the community. Order pharmacologic interventions. Develop and implement an educational plan. Plan for appropriate follow-up care. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and license requirements.
  • Provides family planning education and services as well as provide health screening and immunizations. Counseling and educating patients on healthy behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options.
  • Perform minor procedures such as suturing, blood draws and allergy/immunization/medication injections.
  • Perform the following support services (which normally would be performed by a medical assistant or registered nurse):
    • Administer inhalation medication (via nebulizer machine)
    • Perform skin tests; measure and describe skin- test reactions and make a record in the patient's chart
    • Apply and remove bandages and dressings
    • Select and adjust crutches; instruct patient in proper use of crutches
    • Remove sutures or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations
    • Perform ear lavage
    • Collect non-invasive techniques (including nasal smears and throat swabs) and preserve specimens (including urine, sputum, stool) for testing
    • Collect and record patient data, including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure
    • Perform simple laboratory and screening tests customarily performed in a medical office
    • Ensure all specimens are meticulously labeled, processed and sent to the appropriate lab
  • Experience with LGBTQ healthcare, including PreP therapy
  • Engage in appropriate and timely consultation with supervising physician (SHWC Director).
  • Complete and maintain accurate medical records of all patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Adhere to the Otis College SHWC Nurse Practitioner Protocols and other requirements set forth by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Act as the Otis College SHWC Immunization Compliance Officer. This position will be responsible for maintaining and promoting the immunization compliance program for all Otis College students by tracking student immunization records, notifying students of deficiencies and enforcing compliance throughout the school year.
  • Aid in working with various departments on campus to engage students in health promotion events and activities geared towards the whole Otis College community.
  • Serve on a discussion panel for new or returning students/parents to discuss services offered in SHWC
  • Assist with planning and implementing care designed to meet student health and wellness needs. Participates in monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient care.
  • In conjunction with the SHWC Director, help with campus-wide health education and promotion events. Duties include working with various campus departments to engage students in health promotion events and activities for the whole Otis College community. Other duties may include developing, ordering, and distributing appropriate health education materials such as brochures, posters, etc.
  • Serve as the point-person, or interim medical director, responsible for overseeing all aspects of medical services and operations within the SHWC in the absence of the managing physician/director.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with departmental standards, policies, and safety regulations. Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
  • Serve as a mentor to other staff members (i.e., student workers) regarding policies and procedures through teaching and instruction.
  • Assist students with navigating the student health insurance plan and how to utilize this plan.
  • Represent Otis College within the health care community and at professional organizations or associations and serve on committees as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be responsive to work-related phone calls and emails during non-business hours on occasion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree in Nursing, a valid California State RN license with a Nurse. Practitioner Certificate, Furnishing Number, and DEA license is required.
  • The Nurse practitioner will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation and policy changes as well as changes in standards of care by attending continuing education courses/conferences, professional meetings and maintaining membership in professional organizations.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR certification
  • Hardworking, detail-oriented individual with the ability to problem solve independently, reaching out for help / support on patient cases, as needed.
  • Caring, compassionate individual who enjoys helping others and providing a positive care experience.
  • Used to balancing multiple, concurrent patient cases, and who are comfortable giving and receiving feedback to grow in their roles.
  • Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of the use of an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends for student events and/or to meet business needs.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation Type: Annual Salary

Salary Range: 108,759.00 - 134,996.00
