Nurse Practitioner - Hematology & Oncology (Benign Hematology)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Nursing/Advanced Practice Director and collaborating with attending physicians, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive care to patients in the outpatient Benign Hematology clinic under a medical collaborative agreement. The NP conducts patient histories and physical examinations, reviews diagnostic results, places clinically appropriate orders and referrals, provides patient education, and manages follow-up visits. Responsibilities include ongoing patient evaluation, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and serving as a liaison to referring physicians and consulting teams. Patients will be seen both independently and in collaboration with physicians. Occasional inpatient consultation for sickle cell patients may be required. Additional clinical duties may be assigned.

- Location: 161 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, NY
- Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, including history and physical examinations
- Review laboratory and imaging results; initiate appropriate clinical orders
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, and care plans
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical meetings
- Perform additional related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Current New York State RN and NP licenses/registrations
- Master’s degree in Nursing with prescriptive privileges (or eligibility)
- National Nurse Practitioner Certification
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Adaptability to flexible schedules and evolving clinical needs
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in patient care
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hematology
- Familiarity with NYP/CUIMC systems and procedures
- Experience with performing bone marrow biopsies helpful, but not essential
Other Requirements
- Participation in the medical surveillance program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
