Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

The Nurse Practitioner Ill Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement is responsible for developing, implementing, leading and supporting clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement initiatives while providing patient-centered care in a community-based setting. The Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to while ensuring culturally responsive and evidence-based care. This role involves both direct patient care and strategic input in Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement programs, aiming to enhance health outcomes in the community. The Nurse Practitioner Ill Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement will play a critical role in promoting TSU’s Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement initiatives locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally in support of TSU’s and the Division of Research and Innovation’s vision, mission, and strategic directions.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Strategically work with the Assistant Vice President Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement on Clinical Translational Research & Community Engagement initiatives.
  • Support TSUs efforts of obtaining Carnegie Community Engagement Classification to include Town Halls, community engagement focus-groups, and survey administration.
  • Provide comprehensive, culturally competent clinical care to community members on various diseases: e.g., cancer screening, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, and other preventive/clinical services.
  • Develop and implement patient-centered Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement initiatives to address specific community health needs.
  • Conduct health assessments, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic conditions, and promote preventive health strategies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and public health agencies to improve access to services and resources for the communities.
  • Educate community members and community health workers on preventive care and various health topics. Educate TSU researchers on community engagement frameworks
  • Collect and analyze health data to identify trends, track progress, and adapt care delivery strategies to improve health outcomes.
  • Advocate for policies and practices that improve health outcomes.
  • Participate in training and development activities focused on cultural competency, health literacy, and health-related best practices.
  • Provide comprehensive support for TSU’s clinical research and mobile health programs.
  • Ensures successful implementation of Clinical Translational Research, Health Services, and Community Engagement Infrastructures and partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $113,285.61-$147,271.29

Education

Required: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing

Required Licensing/Certification

Required:

  • Current Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification
  • Active Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner registered in the state of Texas in good standing or eligible to become registered in the state of Texas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including Federal, State, and Local laws.
  • Knowledge of health trends locally and across communities.
  • Knowledge of conflict of interest and ethics requirements, including federal research requirements.
  • Other job-related software and systems.

Skilled in:

  • Both verbal and written communication.
  • Sustaining high performing and effective teams that engage with stakeholders.
  • Managing staff and their performance.
  • Strategic and operational management and planning as evidenced by demonstrated record.
  • Financial planning and resource allocation.
  • Leading and successfully initiating and implementing change.

Ability to:

  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Work Experience

Required: A minimum of three (3) years of clinical/health care services as an NP working with general populations, ideally in community health or similar settings.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual skills to meet the language needs of the community.
  • Experience in data collection, program evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with health outcomes frameworks and policies.
  • Experience with clinical research and/or mobile health programs
  • Strong understanding of health outcomes, determinants of health, and culturally responsive care.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Routine office environment. Mobile Health unit, Sitting/standing in one location most of the time.
  • Some travel locally and within the greater Houston area (~30%) with mileage reimbursement.
  • Travel to professional conference to attend, present, network and learn about similar grant funded programs at least once a year with cost reimbursable under grant funding.
