Nurse Practitioner - Neurology
Position Summary
Position provides specialty (movement disorders) medical care in an outpatient setting; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation, and functions within the scope of practice defined by the NP’s specialty certification, BJH medical by-laws, and the collaborative practice agreement.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care to patients with movement disorders including: evaluation and treatment for patients with movement disorders, obtaining patient history and examination, performing patient assessment via observation, interview and examination; orders and interprets diagnostic studies; provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers; develops and implements patient plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers, and others as appropriate to the patient’s condition.
- Will specifically learn and implement advanced treatments for movement disorders such as subcutaneous and intrajejunal levodopa infusion, deep brain stimulation and focused ultrasound lesioning.
- Recruits patients to participate in Movement Disorders research.
- Bills for services covered by collaborative practice agreement.
- Returns patient phone calls.
- Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records, maintains all required documentation.
- Regularly participates in weekly movement disorders educational conferences and relevant Departmental and University continuing education conferences.

Required Qualifications
Education: M.S.N. - Master Of Science In Nursing - Nurse Practitioner. Certifications: Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration, Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Certified Nurse Practitioner - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Certified Nurse Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration. Work Experience: No specific work experience is required for this position. Skills: Not Applicable. Driver's License: A driver's license is not required for this position.

Required Qualifications: APN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire. Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty. Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirement).
