Nurse Practitioner
Position Summary
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Milstein Hospital 9GN inpatient psychiatric unit works in collaboration with an interdisciplinary health care team including attending psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and therapists.
Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing and managing the acute psychiatric patient as well as determining appropriateness for discharge to a suitable level of care. The NP should have strong communication skills and be able to coordinate effectively with an interdisciplinary team throughout the hospital, including the admissions area, the inpatient unit, and other parts of the Columbia University Hospital system as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Conducts complete psychiatric assessments and mental status examinations, determining diagnostic impressions in accordance with the DSM 5 and providing psychiatric treatment including prescribing and administering medications
- Performs comprehensive history and examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including behavioral health history.
- Orders diagnostic/laboratory tests as needed and collects, interprets and documents test results for patients.
- Participates in treatment teams and develops and implements patient treatment plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
- Works collaboratively with our physicians in providing psychiatric care and managing psychiatric issues.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of previous experience in the field of Psychiatry.
Other Requirements
- Must successfully complete all online systems training requirements.
- New York State Registered Nurse and Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner Licenses required.
- National Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), plus a minimum of two (2) years' experience in an outpatient setting, or inpatient setting, or emergency department setting
- DEA Certificate is also required.
- Valid BLS Certification.

- Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000.00
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
