"Nurse Practitioner Preoperative Anesthesia"

Under the general supervision of the Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic Medical Director, Pain Clinic Medical Director, and Chief of Anesthesia, and in accordance with standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role will work clinically in the Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic (PAC).

The Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic is an ambulatory clinic responsible for the preoperative assessment and optimization of patients undergoing surgery. The clinic offers telemedicine and in-person consultations.

The NP role provides clinical and operational support to the Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. General responsibilities are obtaining a health history, performing a physical assessment, identifying problems and formulating a plan that includes further diagnostic evaluation, risk stratification and counseling. The NP facilitates the coordination of outpatient care and services as needed.

In addition to the above responsibilities, there are some specific skills required based on the clinical environment:

In the Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic, the NP is responsible for preoperative assessment and optimization of patients scheduled for surgery or diagnostic/therapeutic procedures requiring anesthesia. The NP will order diagnostic tests, interpret them, and make clinical decisions based on the results. The NP will coordinate care amongst multiple specialty services. The NP will consult with the supervising physician as needed.

The NP integrates the nursing process and collaborates with other health care professionals, including the patients' primary care providers and medical consultants. The NP takes initiative in pursuing self-directed learning. The NP works with standardized procedures and consults with physicians about appropriate cases.

The ideal candidate has strong, timely, and effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in the work environment, possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and upholds the diversity, equity, and inclusivity missions of the department and hospital. Regular participation in developing workflow/guidelines/protocols, quality improvement projects, and attendance at clinic meetings is expected.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).
