JOB SUMMARY

Faculty are expected to participate in the development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum in the associate degree program. Faculty are also expected to participate in college committees, advising, and assessment activities. Nursing courses include classroom theory, laboratory, and clinical experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of a bachelors degree in nursing with a commitment to ongoing graduate education are required for the Instructor position. A Masters degree is required for the Assistant Professor position. An active, unrestricted, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia. Demonstrated ability to support student success through effective instruction, mentorship, and adherence to professional nursing standards. Two or more years of clinical experience preferred. Previous classroom and/or clinical teaching experience preferred.

MAJOR DUTIES

The responsibilities of a full-time faculty member include, but are not limited to:

Teaching

  • Preparing and presenting current, well-researched course content, implementing a variety of teaching strategies, to meet program identified course objectives.
  • Maintain the professional knowledge base needed to help learners prepare for contemporary nursing practice.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instruction based on learner and peer evaluations.
  • Create opportunities for learners to develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Assists students in applying nursing theories and principles to the practice of nursing.
  • Show enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students.
  • Collaborate to assess and revise the curriculum based on assessment of program outcomes, learner needs, and societal and healthcare trends.
  • Participate in all course-related functions such as test administration, grading, test review, project grading, student teaching evaluations, etc.
  • Participate in campus laboratory instruction and evaluation of students for skill check-offs.
  • Participate in clinical instruction in healthcare facilities, by making student assignments, preparing for client care, pre and post-conferences, grading clinical paperwork, and evaluating students.

Student Success

  • Participate in academic advising to help students meet their professional goals.
  • Attendance at and support of advisor development programming.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Lead mentoring activities that encourage career and professional development which allows students to build their professional networks.
  • Mentor students as they develop original, creative projects and/or research and encourage and guide the process of disseminating the work to appropriate audiences.
  • Belongs to professional organizations which promote quality healthcare.
  • Serves as a nursing resource person for local health agencies or community health initiatives when requested.
  • Develop collegial working relationships with students, faculty colleagues, and clinical agency personnel to promote positive learning environments.
  • Create and maintain community and clinical partnerships that support educational goals.
  • Conduct self in the best interest of the students at all times.

Scholarship and Professional Growth

  • Participate in continuing educational activities designed to enhance teaching or clinical knowledge.
  • Participates in programs of self-development, such as workshops, seminars, clinical practice, research symposia, conferences, and classes.
  • Assists in the designing, conducting, evaluating, and publishing research and/or studies relating to teaching healthcare and/or the nursing profession.
  • Shares and utilizes investigational findings for the improvement of the teaching/learning process.
  • Contributes to professional writings and makes scholarly presentations.

Professional Service

  • Serves on the School of Nursing and Health Science and College committees, participating in designated committee activities.
  • Participation in school or campus committees include, but are not limited to, student organizations, attendance at department meetings, nursing faculty meetings, general faculty meetings, in-service training, peer evaluations, pinning, and graduation.
  • Represent the nursing department in relevant community functions
  • Participate in recruitment, admission, and enrollment activities.
