Nursing Faculty

Job Description

Faculty members are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction at the college level, promoting student learning, engagement, and academic success through effective and innovative teaching practices.

Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining course materials, assessing student performance, and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Faculty are expected to remain current in their field of expertise, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in departmental, divisional, or institutional committees as needed. In addition, faculty play an active role in advancing the academic mission of BridgeValley Community and Technical College through teaching excellence, student support, and ongoing engagement in institutional initiatives.

The salary range for this position is a full-time, benefits eligible, 9-month faculty position. The salary range for this position is 40,000-45,000. Actual offer will be commensurate with education and experience.

Examples of Duties:

Instruction & Student Support
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses, using in-person, online, or hybrid formats as scheduled by the College and Division Dean.
  • Fulfill assigned teaching load in accordance with institutional policy
  • Maintain regular on-campus office hours to provide academic advising, mentoring, and support that promote student retention and success.
  • Ensure timely publication of course syllabi, submission of grades, and completion of required course documentation by institutional deadlines.
  • Advise, academically counsel, mentor, and recruit students in support of program enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
  • Participate in professional development activities and apply insights to improve teaching effectiveness and support the Colleges strategic plan.
  • Complete course and program-level assessment activities to support continuous improvement and compliance with academic standards.
Institutional Engagement
  • Maintain a minimum on-campus presence of 25 hours per week, including instructional and office hours, with remaining weekly hours (totaling 37.5 hours per week) devoted to course development, research, workforce development, student engagement, and planning/evaluation activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and events, including student registration, new student orientation, program ceremonies, Welcome Back Week and end-of-semester activities, and commencement ceremonies.
  • Attend and actively participate in Open House or internal/external recruitment events.
  • Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives that advance the mission, vision, and goals of the College.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to support accreditation, compliance with regulatory bodies including the West Virginia RN Board, Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the U.S. Department of Education, and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC).
  • Ensure that instructional practices, documentation, and reporting align with institutional and academic standards.
Program Development & Sustainability
  • Support the quality, stability, and sustainability of assigned academic programs through active participation in curriculum development, student recruitment, and program review.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to strengthen program viability and align offerings with workforce and community needs.
Other
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission, vision, and goals of the College.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree preferred; however, candidates may have a Bachelors degree with a major in nursing and be enrolled or agree to enroll in a graduate program with a major in nursing within one year of employment as a faculty member; or have a Bachelors degree with a major in nursing and at least 10 years of direct patient care experience in nursing
  • Evidence of current experience in nursing practice and education sufficient to demonstrate professional competence
  • Five years of nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competence in providing direct patient care
  • Two years experience in a specialty nursing discipline
  • Current unrestricted/unencumbered West Virginia Registered Nurse license
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) preferred

Other Skills

  • Knowledge of concept-based curriculum development and delivery, including active learning strategies and the use of simulation
  • Familiarity with current teaching methodologies, pedagogical theories, and best practices in nursing education
  • Understanding of curriculum development, assessment standards, and accreditation requirements in higher education
  • Awareness of institutional and state policies related to academic standards and student support
  • Strong instructional skills, with the ability to present complex nursing concepts clearly and effectively
  • Effective classroom management and student engagement strategies to foster a positive learning environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, for interaction with students, colleagues, and administration with students, peers, constituents, and communities of interest
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.
  • Commitment to professional development and maintaining required number of continuing education hours
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on curriculum development, departmental initiatives, and institutional goals.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
