Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Nursing Department beginning August 2026.

Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.

*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity, as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties

The faculty member will provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines while using comparative cross-cultural, multidisciplinary perspectives. The faculty members will provide classroom theory instruction using our concept-based curriculum. Teaching assignment will include instruction of pre-licensure nursing students in both the classroom and the clinical area.

Included, but not limited to the following:

  • Serves as a nursing role model for students by remaining current in nursing skills and knowledge and maintaining a professional approach including appearance, interpersonal relationships and legal and ethical responsibilities.
  • Preparation and delivery of theory material that demonstrates knowledge of subject matter, relationship to course objectives, effectiveness measured by, but not limited to, student testing and evaluation, and understanding of and commitment to principles of adult learning.
  • Instructs and supervises students in the clinical setting (hospital or skills lab) demonstrating knowledge and competence in clinical practice, utilization of curriculum objectives in planning student assignments, clinical practice that is in harmony with the clinical facilities policies and procedures and facilitates quality patient care, optimum student learning and harmonious College-hospital relationships.

Service:

  • Assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
  • Commitment to serving the needs of the student, department, college and community.
  • Collaboration across disciplines and utilization of student support resources.
  • Participates in department, division, college committee, and participatory governance activities.
  • The faculty member would be expected to participate fully in accreditation-related activities and obtain any necessary training related to pedagogy and teaching in a concept-based curriculum.
  • Participates in curriculum and program development.
  • Work collegially and collaboratively within the college community.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development.

Teaching:

  • Ability to create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction.
  • Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures and experience.
  • Ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, active engagement with campus culture, participation in departmental responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity District wide.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria.

  • Master's in nursing
  • OR Bachelor's in nursing and Master's in health education or health science
  • OR The Equivalent
  • OR the Minimum qualifications of the California Board of Registered Nursing

AND

  • Copy of current, valid California RN license
  • One-year continuous, direct patient care experience in an acute care setting within the previous five (5) years in the Medical-Surgical area of nursing; or one (1) academic year as a registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the Medical-Surgical area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency

Job Required Core System Competency

The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 §53022.

Desirable Qualifications

The Hiring Committee also seeks evidence of the following:

  • Successful experience teaching students of ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience in a clinical setting with associate degree Registered Nursing students.
  • Commitment to developing and updating instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary material.
  • Evidence of the ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
  • Ability to incorporate student learning outcomes objectives within course and program and willingness to develop and use stated objectives and measures.

  • Equivalency documents (If necessary)
  • Two (2) recent letters of recommendation addressing pertinent experience or equivalent competencies.
