Nursing Instructor

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Nursing Department Head, this position serves as a key faculty resource in preparing students for entry into the nursing profession. This role operates in a student-centered academic environment and is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student success, and maintaining curriculum standards. The position exercises independent judgment in course design and instruction while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and college policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach nursing courses in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings using effective instructional practices that promote student learning and engagement.
  • Develop, review, and update course materials, syllabi, and instructional content aligned with program outcomes, accreditation standards, and best practices in nursing education.
  • Evaluate student performance, provide timely feedback, advise students on academic progress, and support student retention and success.
  • Maintain accurate academic records, submit required reports, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and accrediting and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in program development, curriculum improvement, student recruitment, and collaborate with faculty and college departments.
  • Engage in professional development, committee work, college service activities, and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing education or MSN in another area, with willingness to complete a post-master’s certificate in Nursing Education or successfully complete the CNE examination within three (3) years of hire.
  • Current, unrestricted South Carolina RN license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in the primary area of teaching responsibility: medical-surgical nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in an associate or bachelor’s degree nursing program, preferably in a community college or similar academic environment.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing education and relevant content areas, with experience in curriculum development and student assessment.
  • Proficiency with instructional technologies and Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to support both traditional and distance learning environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills, with strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
