Portland Community College (PCC) is accepting applications for a Standardized Participant for the Nursing Program. This is a Part-time, on-call position based on simulation scheduling needs (typically Monday - Friday).
The Standardized Participant is a Casual position at PCC, with a $25/hour pay rate.
Function/Duties of Position
Under the supervision of the PCC Nursing Simulation Leads, the Standardized Participant (SP) supports the nursing program by portraying patients, family members, or other healthcare roles in simulated clinical encounters.
Responsibilities include:
- Accurately portraying physical, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of patients, family members or healthcare professionals based on provided case materials.
- Memorizing and consistently repeating key scenario details or responses.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism, consistency, and confidentiality throughout all learning activities.
- Collaborating with faculty, staff, and fellow SPs to support student learning objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and deliver consistent performances.
- Experience as an actor or standardized participant
- Dependable, organized, and punctual.
- Receptive to direction and feedback from faculty and simulation staff.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- High School Diploma
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with healthcare terminology and basic clinical equipment.
- Experience in healthcare education or academic settings.
- 2+ years of experience as an actor or standardized participant
- Comfort working with diverse populations and supporting inclusive learning environments.
