Occupational Therapist- Lymphedema

We are currently seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist who is skilled at evaluating and treating oncology related lymphedema. The preferred candidate would have 3 years of outpatient oncology lymphedema management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team required.
As an Occupational Therapist at Michigan Medicine, you will conduct patient evaluations and treatments for a variety of lymphedema diagnoses in outpatient clinic settings. Collaborating directly with patients and their families, you will create an individualized treatment plan based on a comprehensive evaluation of their current abilities and needs, as well as lifestyle and personal goals. Our Occupational Therapists who treat patients with lymphedema are nationally certified therapists who have specialized and advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of edema. Additionally, we are one of the few NLN Accredited Programs. - Completes evaluations of assigned patients and interprets evaluation results in accordance with the established standards of care and practice.
- Develops focused individually designed treatment plans based on the patient’s functional goals and appropriate established standards of care and practice.
- Utilizes independent clinical decision making to progress patients and modifies treatment depending on the patient’s need and medical and medical/psychological status.
- Completes all documentation of patient care services per department standards.
- Assist in developing and conducting research and study projects related to patient treatment.
- Instructs patients and families in home treatment programs.
- Assist in the establishment or modification of unit rules and procedures.
- Assist in the education, supervision and motivation of students and assistants.
- May assist in the preparation of assigned sections of the annual unit budget.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
Requirements:
- If licensed before 1/1/2007: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
- If licensed on or after 1/1/2007: Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Satisfactory completion of an internship program is necessary
- Registered member of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy- NBCOT
- This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
- Certified Lymphedema Therapist- CLT Required, LANA or LANA eligible
- Course work in Klose, ACOLS or Norton
- Ability to understand and communicate information both orally and in writing so that others will understand
Our ideal candidates would also have:
- 3 years of experience managing outpatient oncology related lymphedema including ordering, measuring, and fitting garments for related edema reduction.
- 3 years of experience collaborating with multiple external vendors for obtaining garments for edema reduction. Including knowledge of required documentation and insurance authorization requirement.
- A passion for rehab care- Taking patients the next steps to returning to independent functioning in home/work/community activities.
- A collaborative work style and positive attitude to add to our highly performing multidisciplinary team.
- Prior experience and/or interest in Oncology Rehab.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to be collaborative and a team player.
- Current CPR and first aid certification.
The clinic is scheduled with patients Monday-Friday 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM. This position is 20 hours a week and you will be expected to cover closing shifts.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
