Alabama State University's College of Health Sciences invites applications for the position of Chair and Associate/Full Professor of Occupational Therapy.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $116,262 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a teaching reduction of at least one course per semester, allowing the Chair to focus on administrative leadership while maintaining involvement in teaching and scholarly activities.
JOB DUTIES
The Chair of Occupational Therapy serves as the chief administrator of the academic department and provides comprehensive leadership to advance the department's mission and goals. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and plays a crucial role in connecting departmental faculty with university administration.
As Chair, you will be responsible for directing, planning, and coordinating all departmental activities while teaching appropriate courses in the curriculum. You will provide supervision for all faculty members and administrative staff assigned to the department, ensuring excellence in teaching, research, and service. A key aspect of this role involves providing academic and administrative leadership to the graduate program and continuing to establish and strengthen relationships with clinical partners in the community.
The Chair will lead student recruitment initiatives and oversee the application process for prospective students. You will be responsible for conducting annual evaluations of faculty with input from the Program Director and will play a central role in recruiting and maintaining faculty to meet Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) standards.
As Chair of the Screening/Hiring committee for new faculty, you will ensure that the department attracts and retains high-quality educators and researchers.
Financial management is an important component of this position, including responsibility for the departmental budget. You will assign teaching loads and course schedules in conjunction with the Program Director, establish departmental committees and appoint committee chairs, assign advisors to students in the program, and assist faculty and students with issues as appropriate.
The Chair serves as an advocate for the department within the university and the broader community, representing the department's interests and communicating administrative decisions to faculty. You will work collaboratively with other department chairs and university administrators to advance the institution's strategic goals and initiatives.
