Job Description
The Office of Animal Resources is pleased to announce the opening of Sr. Veterinary Technician.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for the veterinary care of research animals and expand the research support services provided by the Office of Animal Resources (OAR). This position will work with laboratory animal veterinarians to provide care for rodent health issues. This position will also assist with investigator support activities across campus including anesthesia monitoring, technical procedures like blood collection, injections and gavage, and surgical support.
Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Veterinary care support (rodents)-Addressing rodent health issues (documenting checks and information on rodent medical records, communicating with veterinary and research staff on cases), performing nail and teeth trims, administering medications and fluids, euthanasia, necropsy.
- PI technical support (rodents)-anesthesia, blood collection, gavage, injections, surgical procedures.
- PI technical support (large animals)-anesthesia, blood collection, injections, surgical support.
- Office clerical work-maintaining health records and campus anesthesia records (organizing and filing records).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Shift
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., occasional nights and weekends
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program. Licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the State of Missouri, or eligibility to obtain Missouri Licensure within 6 months after start date. Must have 5 years of experience in a general veterinary practice or three years in a progressive specialty or Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications are a Veterinary Technician or 2 years of experience in the field of laboratory animal medicine, a research lab, or related veterinary field.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $17.40 - $28.00 per hour
Grade: GGS 007
