We hypothesise that oncolytic vaccinia possesses superior cancer-killing capabilities within the bone niche due to its unique innate ability to survive and replicate within hypoxic environments. Our aim is to investigate these interactions in precise detail, examining how the virus engages with key cellular compartments to facilitate tumour destruction and ultimately reshape the bone metastatic landscape.
To address these aims, you will receive comprehensive training in advanced in vitro, ex vivo (NAMs), and in vivo disease models, alongside multi-colour flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, and digital image analysis techniques.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have a first or upper second class honours degree or significant research experience.
This project is most suitable for those with an interest in oncology / immune cell biology / virology.
Training in all key areas will be provided but the successful candidate would be able to evidence previous research experience (e.g. via final year or masters-level wet lab projects or a role as a research assistant / technician).
Funding Notes
This opportunity is for self-funded applicants who are able to fund this themselves, or obtain funding from another source (Government sponsored etc).
This project is for 3.5 years, so applicants will be required to fund 3.5 years of tuition fees and an additional £12,0000 per year for 3.5 years to run the project.
This is open to both home and overseas applicants.
