Open call: Permanent Full Professor / Principal Investigator Position in Biophysics

The Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics (IBFG) in Salamanca, Spain, invites applications for a permanent Full Professor position in Biophysics of DNA metabolism. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong expertise in single molecule force spectroscopy and single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy to investigate genome biology processes. The selected candidate will have access to a unique instrument (optical tweezers), designed and developed in the laboratory of Prof. Bustamante (University of California, Berkeley), combining both force and fluorescence spectroscopy.

The successful candidate will join the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) as a tenured civil servant in the category of “Profesor de Investigación”.

The IBFG is a joint research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Salamanca (USAL). The Institute´s main research focus is to understand the molecular mechanisms that regulate cell growth and division, cell morphogenesis, and genome biology processes (Replication, Transcription, DNA repair, Chromosome dynamics, etc.). CSIC is the largest public research institution in Spain and one of the most renowned institutions in the European Research Area (ERA). It is affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Universities and Innovation through the Secretary General for Research.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (PhD).
• Well-established and independent research line in Biophysics.
• Outstanding research achievements, with an excellent publication and funding record and international recognition.
• Proven leadership skills.

Selection process

Appointments are made through a public call. The selection process is conducted by a panel of distinguished experts, focusing on merit assessment, and including an oral presentation, ensuring transparency and strict adherence to merit-based principles.
