About the Department

The Georgia State University School of Nursing ( SON ), located in downtown Atlanta, is committed to excellence in education, research, and service. Position Description

The School of Nursing invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions for a nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Faculty responsibilities include maintaining a program of research in a focused area, securing external funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and engaging in other scholarly activities. Teaching in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, providing service to the university and profession, and mentoring students and faculty are essential components of the role. Faculty rank will be determined based on prior research and teaching experience.

DNP -prepared nurses who do not hold a Ph.D. or DNS are encouraged to apply for Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor positions that are non-tenure track.

Required Experience

Assistant Professor: Candidates should have an emerging research portfolio, a record of scholarly activity such as publications or presentations, and experience or potential in securing external funding. At least one year of tenure-track academic experience in teaching, research, and service at a higher education institution is required. Candidates should demonstrate a focused research area through publications and other scholarly activities.

Associate Professor: Candidates must have an established research program with peer-reviewed publications, experience obtaining external funding, and excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses. At least seven years of tenure-track academic experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate a focused research area through publications and other scholarly activities.

Full Professor: Candidates are expected to have a distinguished record of scholarly research and publications, a history of securing significant external funding, extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels, and substantial professional and university service. At least ten years of tenure-track academic experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate a focused research area through publications and other scholarly activities.

Required Education

Candidates for Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor tenure-track or tenured positions must hold a Ph.D. in Nursing or a closely related field and possess a Georgia Registered Nurse license or be eligible for licensure.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate nursing students or research-focused courses, post-doctoral training or at least three years of academic experience, leadership in academic committees or professional organizations, and national or international recognition in nursing research or practice are preferred. Prior involvement in securing significant external funding is considered a strong asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory, research methods, and evidence-based practice. Strong skills in conducting and disseminating scholarly research, securing external funding, and teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level are essential. Effective communication, collaboration, and mentorship abilities are required to support students, faculty, and interdisciplinary teams. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to contribute to the academic community through service, leadership, and engagement with professional organizations. Familiarity with current trends in nursing education, healthcare policy, and clinical practice is highly desirable.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc

Georgia RN license/license eligible.
