Job Summary

The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Oncologist/Surgeon and Researcher to perform clinical services, research, and education duties in the Orthopedic Oncology Section within the Department and for the Colorado Program for Musculoskeletal Research (CPMR). The position will have an affiliation with the University of Colorado Cancer Center; an NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center on the Anschutz Campus. This position requires establishment of a successful and impactful clinical practice in orthopedic/musculoskeletal oncology, development of a federally competitive basic/translational research program as an independent investigator and contribution to the Department's education mission by training and mentoring orthopedic residents, clinical fellows, and scientists.

This position is situated on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO; a 2.5-billion-dollar campus that combines state of the art medical and research facilities and is home to 2 major hospitals. The campus neighbors a newly constructed Veterans Administration Medical Center (Rocky Mountain VAMC) and has direct highway and light rail access to the Denver International Airport and communities across the Denver Metro Area. Research activities will be conducted in research facilities and clinical work will be conducted at outpatient and hospital facilities on the Anschutz Campus as well as other University of Colorado Health facilities in the Denver area as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and nurturing a clinical practice emphasizing medical and surgical treatment of musculoskeletal tumors.
  • Maximizing quality of clinical care in this context by employing already established departmental data capture protocols and by actively envisioning and developing quality improvement measures for clinical practice.
  • Working with the Department of Orthopedics and the Musculoskeletal Oncology Section, to achieve collaboration and synergy with other sections in Orthopedics and other clinical departments in the School of Medicine.
  • Developing, conducting, leading and presenting your own research in accordance with the Department of Orthopedics' research mission.
  • Presentation of research findings in local, national, and international venues and publication of findings in the peer-reviewed literature.
  • Developing competitive grant proposals and successfully winning extramural support from NIH and other federal, foundation, and industry sources.
  • Participating in the education of medical students, graduate students, orthopedic residents, clinical fellows and postdoctoral trainees via formal training programs in the Department and in the School of Medicine.
  • Contribute to fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability in the Department of Orthopedics, the CPMR, and the Cancer Center.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor

  • Completion of at least a one-year Orthopedic Oncology Fellowship
  • Board certified/eligible as an orthopedic surgeon
  • Evidence of previous research grant submissions
  • Completion of a 5-year residency in Orthopedic Surgery

Associate Professor

  • Completion of at least a one-year Orthopedic Oncology Fellowship
  • Board certified as an orthopedic surgeon
  • Completion of a 5-year residency in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Track record of high impact publications
  • Evidence of previous research grant submissions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in developing a clinical practice with focus on sarcoma patients and metastatic bone disease patients
  • Strong research interest in musculoskeletal cancers
  • Previous success winning research grants

Assistant Professor - $230,000 - $280,000 Associate Professor - $280,000 - $350,000
